Mapromec Achieves AQAP 2110 NATO Certification – Discussions with Defense Industry Players Underway
Mapromec has achieved one of the most significant milestones in its operational history. The company’s ability to supply components to the world’s most demanding industries was confirmed in February 2026, when Bureau Veritas granted Mapromec the AQAP 2110 certificate, also known as the NATO certificate. The quality standard established by NATO indicates that the recipient is capable of delivering products or services that meet the high requirements of the defense industry. For a company of Mapromec’s size in particular, this is a notable achievement.
AQAP 2110 is based on the ISO 9001 quality system but is supplemented with additional requirements specific to the defense industry. The key requirements concern the company’s quality management system, risk management, and quality plan. The company’s entire operation, including its subcontracting chain, must comply with the requirements of the standard.
“We knew that our machinery and quality expertise meet the needs of the defense industry. We have been participating in industry events for some time now, and we currently have discussions underway with defense industry operators. Engine components remain the cornerstone of our operations, but we strongly believe that the defense industry will become a new supporting pillar alongside it”, comments Managing Director Tapio Kaunismäki.
A strong quality foundation provided a head start in the AQAP certification
Mapromec’s journey toward becoming a defense industry supplier began already in the 1990s. At that time, the company received its first ISO 9001 certificate. Quality expertise has grown into a driving force throughout the company: Mapromec can offer 100% traceability for its components, and in addition uses advanced quality assurance methods such as ultrasonic NDT testing, Magnaflux® particle inspection, 3D measurement, and cylindricity measurement. Mapromec has an advanced quality department capable of providing the required documentation even for the most demanding projects. The company has versatile machinery and a high level of automation to ensure consistent product quality. All work stages are carried out by trained personnel.
Thanks to its high level of quality expertise, Mapromec already holds an established position as a component supplier for quality-critical industries such as the nuclear industry, which the company has supplied for many years. Extensive experience in quality-critical industries, together with machinery and methods that meet their requirements, means that Mapromec had a strong head start in obtaining the NATO certificate.
“From our perspective, this means adding an additional level of assurance to the quality required in nuclear power projects”, clarifies Mapromec’s Quality Engineer Niko Sederström.
“The fact that we were on the right track was confirmed already during the pre-audit, when the auditor said we were already close to meeting the certification requirements”, adds Quality Manager Johan Sandelin.
Committed and ready for the first defense industry project
Mapromec has worked towards the certification for about six months. The company’s quality manual has been updated with additions required by the standard, and a dedicated quality plan has been modeled for a potential defense industry project. The quality plan includes instructions related to areas such as information security, nonconformance management, measurement testing, project monitoring, and documentation.
“The audit was carried out very professionally and was, naturally, extremely thorough. It feels great to officially have the certificate in our hands. The entire Mapromec personnel is fully committed to this, and we are ready to take on our first project. I want to thank our entire staff and especially our quality team for this achievement”, Kaunismäki concludes.
